A Danisco-funded study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, concludes that betaine supplementation increased power, force and maintenance, particularly in smaller upper-body muscle groups. Beyond its sports benefits, betaine has also been linked to heart, liver and kidney health. Betaine is said to protect against the effects of dehydration by accumulating in cells and forming a monolayer of water around essential cell components.
